6 Prayers of Gratitude for Moms

6 Prayers of Gratitude for Moms

Have you ever been in communion with God and truly wondered if He understood the depths of your gratitude? I know I have. Many times, I feel so abundantly blessed as I look around at His faithfulness and endless promises, especially as I watch my three daughters grow up, that it seems a simple "thank you" isn't nearly enough.

My heart is so full that I can't seem to find the words to proclaim my thankful heart and give God my total amount of adoration. He has been so good and so faithful. I've felt His love as He has walked me through so many joyful moments as a mom, while on the same token, I have felt Him hold my hand through some of the most gut-wrenching times as well. So, as I approach God in prayer, ready to pour out my heart in gratitude, I feel my words just fall flat.

Maybe you have felt the same way?

As we enter this sweet and special time of year that is wrapped in praising God and giving Him our thankful hearts, it's easy to get caught up in the image of "praying the right way" or "giving enough thanks" that we can miss the mark, if you will. So, let's remove the expectations and first be mindful of Who we are praying to. Our God is a Father who is infinitely wise, omnipotent, omnipresent, holy, pure, and just. At the same time, He is our best friend who is full of grace, mercy, compassion, gentleness, and kindness. That being said, we must understand that our ways are not God's ways (Isaiah 55:8-9), and we will never fully understand Him thoroughly (Psalm 145:4), but our God is personal and yearns for an intimate relationship with us.

Sweet momma friend, our prayers matter deeply to our God. So, let's not worry so much about the nature of our words or if we are saying "thank you" enough, but instead place our sights on the goodness of God, seizing the time and cherishing it. If you are unsure where to start, let the prayer prompts below be a guide as you personalize them and bear your heart.

Now, settle in and find a cozy spot. Maybe even grab a cup of pumpkin spice coffee (or cocoa) and wrap yourself up in your favorite blanket because this will be a time that you will look forward to each day as you comminute with God and embrace the sweetness of this season.

    1. A Prayer for God's Faithfulness

"Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures." Psalm 119:90

Faithful Father, thank you for Your provision and guidance daily and in every circumstance. As I look back on my life, I see how good You have been to my family and me, through the good times and the bad; Your mighty hand is written all over it. Thank you for the blessings of my husband, children, and family members that enriched my life. I know You weave people in our lives for a reason and have a special plan and purpose for them all. I ask that You soften my heart to see them as You do. Grant me the courage to share Your love with my children, family members, friends, and nonbelievers because Your steadfast faithfulness is worth sharing and rejoicing in! Amen.

    2. A Prayer for God's Peace

"I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33

Gracious God, Prince of Peace, You tell us over and over that we are not to be led by a spirit of fear, but unfortunately, it is a natural bend for a momma and her heart. It's so easy to get nervous and worried about raising children in this messy and broken world. But You also tell us that without You, there is no peace. You ransom our hearts, inviting us to seek You and Your face. You tell us to lay our burdens at Your feet and to let go of the anxiety and fear. So, as we live in a world of turmoil, I ask that You help us keep our eyes on YOU! God, I ask that You remove all the stress, worry, sorrow, and grief that grips my heart, and help me surrender it all to You. I pray You give me strength to make peace with my past, peace with my current situations, and to look forward to the future, knowing that it is all in Your loving hands. You are such a good Father. Thank you for granting us peace. Amen.

    3. A Prayer for God's Blessings

"And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19

O Lord, You are so very good to us. Thank you for Your abundant love and bounty of blessings. There are so many things I want to thank you for that I am not often sure where to begin, so I will start with the moment I wake up. Thank you for another day, another breath, and another chance to receive Your grace and mercies, as I am so grateful that they are new each day. Thank you for the food You provide and the security, shelter, and stability You have graciously given me and my family. Thank you for the blessing of our gifts and talents You have bestowed upon each of us; help us use them to glorify You. Thank you for our close friends who hold us accountable and for a church that helps us grow in Your Word. You are so worthy of praise, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that You have done and blessed me with. You are so good to me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

    4. A Prayer for God's Grace and Forgiveness

"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace." Ephesians 1:7

Dear Jesus, I come to You with such a heavy heart, knowing the price You paid on that cross—the cost of my sin. While I hope it does not go unnoticed, I often fail to acknowledge the depths of it and the true impact it has on my life, and I want to say that I am sorry for that. As a mom who longs to connect deeply with my children and feel I would do anything for them, I believe Your selfless sacrifice gives me a little glimpse into the love You must hold for me and all of humanity. So, in knowing You are a God of grace and forgiveness, I humbly come before You now with all the stumbling blocks that prevent me from living the life You so graciously have given me. Help me in these areas, shift my perspective, and soften my heart. I am forever grateful for the debts You paid for my sins. Amen.

    5. A Prayer for God's Wisdom and Guidance

"For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding." Proverbs 2:6

Almighty Father, You are all-wise and all-knowing, our source of Truth and true wisdom. You grant us discernment and grant our hearts peace as we seek You in our circumstances. We are so grateful that we can come to You as mothers and lay our worries at Your feet, surrendering all and letting go. But, as You well know, Lord, that is so much easier for us mommas to say than to do. So, I ask that You come into the tender parts of my heart and show me Your will, Your way, and grant me the strength to follow through.

I need You in every season. You alone can chart the path forward or grant peace in the wait. You alone can break down every wall or cut the chains that so easily want to bind me down and keep me from trusting You. So, I open my heart to You today. I invite You in and long to receive Your infinite wisdom. You are holy, majestic in power, and I magnify Your precious name. Amen.

    6. A Prayer for God's Comfort

"The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." Deuteronomy 31:8

God, Father of all comfort, I come before You now. Bless me today with the Truth revealed in Your Word, the healing of Your precious presence, or the comfort of Your unexplainable peace. I am so thankful You are a God that never leaves, especially on difficult days. Being a mom brings many days that I am unsure of the next step. I am heartbroken or angry, maybe even falling into disbelief that clouds my judgment. This journey is bittersweet, and I need a constant reminder that You love me while I love and nurture them. That You see me when nobody else seems to understand and that You give us strength in times of trouble. I am so very grateful that You offer us Your comfort, Lord. Calm my heart, ease my fears and worries, keep the spirit of fear at bay, and envelope me in Your loving arms. I will lean in, be still, and soak in Your wonder. I am so grateful to be Your daughter. I love you. Amen.

    Practice Gratitude with Grace

Praying for gratitude takes practice and patience. There is no specific formula or way we must pray for gratitude as it stems from our personal experiences. So take a moment and soak in the wonders of our God Almighty, then share with Him what is on your heart and thank Him from that place.
