7 Clean Romance Books to Get Lost In

I love a great romance story, just like everyone else. I like a great plot, realistic characters, and lots of twists and turns. However, as a clean and wholesome romance author, I hate picking a book because the plot sounds interesting, only to find it filled with graphic sex scenes. I have experienced this situation frequently in recent years, to the point where I now specifically check the categories on Amazon to ensure a book is classified as clean romance.

Why clean romance? Well, I don’t feel that a book has to have sex scenes in it to be good. You can still read a romantic, emotionally satisfying story with a happily ever after. Yes, sex is a part of life, but in clean romance, it’s kept behind the door, and that is fine with me.

As an author, I love writing clean romance and building a world for my readers filled with family, friendship, and faith. I enjoy getting to know my characters and putting them through all kinds of things on their way to true love. Of course, not only do I love writing it, I love reading it. Today, I’m going to share with you some of my favorite clean romance authors. I will be honest: I haven’t read all the books on this list yet, but they are on my TBR pile to work through the rest of the year.

    1. This Matter of Marriage by Debbie Macomber

This is the first Debbie Macomber book I ever read, and I picked it up to enjoy it all over again. Hallie McCarthy wants to get married and start a family, but she needs a man. Even more importantly, she needs a plan. So, she gives herself a year to find Mr. Right. Unfortunately, all her dates wind up being disasters.

Her neighbor, Steve Marris, is cute but so not her type. Besides, he’s still hung up on his ex-wife and wants to woo her back, but she’s busy getting married to someone else. If he could fall for Hallie, life would be so much easier. Still, they are friends, and sometimes “just friends” can lead to more.

    2. Coming Home to North Dakota by Jessie Gussman

I’m currently reading this box set, and I love it. Sweet Water, a small town in North Dakota, serves as the setting for the stories. I got hooked by the first book immediately and have been engrossed in the stories ever since.

Jessie has such an engaging way of writing, and her stories are strong in faith. Her characters feel like friends, and I know I’ll be sad when this set of stories ends. I’m a new reader of Jessie’s work, but I recommend her stories and will pick up more of her books in the future.

    3. Martin Family Complete Box Set by Brooke St. James

Brooke St. James is another new author to me; her series about the Martin family is the first I’ve read. The Martin family lives in Louisiana and owns an apparel company, Martin Outfitters. This set follows each family member on their journey to happily ever after.

If you are looking to take a literary trip to Louisiana, this is the series to read. The characters are wonderful with their Southern drawls, the stories draw you in, and I love the way the characters cross over in each book.

    4. Sweetapple Falls (Books 1-3) by Autumn McArthur

This box set is on my to-be-read pile, and I can’t wait to dive in. Sweetapple Falls is a small town in Oregon where people find lasting love with each other, their small community, and God.

Book one, His Father’s Son, is about a single mom who has to forgive the father of her disabled child after he left them years ago. Book two, His Healing Touch, is about a nurse grieving a loss and being stuck in the hometown of a former patient. Will her love help this patient heal, or will she move on? Book three, His Radiant Bride, is about a woman who has given up on love. Her love interest wants to give his daughter a stable home. Neither wants to risk their hearts, so they agree to a fake marriage...at least it is until he falls for his new bride.

    5. No Fake Dating for a Cowboy by Alexa Verde

Jessie Ashford is a former policewoman trying to keep her foster siblings safe from her ex. She ensures their new home and her heart are as secure as Fort Knox. When the local cop comes around to investigate and ask questions, she starts to lose her defenses, struggling to open her heart before it’s too late.

Ronan O’Neil lost the woman he loved and is still grieving. Still, he can’t let anything happen to this new woman in town. She is hiding a secret and will do anything to protect it or die trying. Ronan wonders if she’ll take his heart when she leaves because their relationship feels too real to be fake.

Alexa Verde is a new author to me, and this book is also on my TBR pile.

    7. Belonging Season (Steele Family Saga Book 2) by Carrie Lowrance

Merrick Taylor is a broken man. Growing up in a household with an absent father, a narcissistic mother, and a diagnosis of mental illness has not been easy. One night, he and his mom have a huge argument, and he strikes out on his own, heading for sunny California, but soon finds himself more lost and alone.

Hollyn Steele is a survivor of narcissistic abuse from her biological father. To help others, she joins a narcissistic abuse support group online and meets Merrick Taylor. When they talk, she can feel the pain he’s going through, and they quickly grow close. Suddenly, he disappears, and Hollyn does not know what happened. Until she gets a call that changes everything.

Will Merrick overcome his past and become all God has destined him to be? Can Hollyn’s unconditional love earn his trust and open his heart?

Although this book is a clean romance, it deals with some serious issues like mild descriptions of physical violence, narcissistic abuse, drug use, mental illness, and alcohol use that may trigger some readers.

As you can see, clean romance stories are anything but boring. Celebrate Valentine’s Day by picking up one of these swoon-worthy reads and getting lost in it.
