5 Faith-Filled Affirmations for Mental Wellness

As someone who struggles with OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder), depression, and anxiety, it is hard to maintain my mental wellness. Sometimes it can feel as though I'm always spiraling. This is common for most of us in the present day, as we live in a culture where production is the goal. Individual lives do not matter as long as the product is finished. This is a great disservice to humans in general because we are not robots who were made to be productive and work all the time.
We are humans who are created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27). Through God, we can have peace, rest, and hope. It is not good to place too much on ourselves, even if our culture demands it. During times of stress, we need to seek out ways to better support our mental wellness. Rather than continuing down a path that leads to burnout, we need to turn to God.
Below are five faith-filled affirmations for mental wellness. I created them with the purpose of helping you grow, cultivate, and better equip your mental well-being. Feel free to add your own to this list and continue to develop a healthier mental space. Sometimes this might mean staying away from certain people or backing away from too much of a workload. God is with you through all of it and He will help you to cultivate your mental wellness.
1. I Am Enough in Jesus

1. I Am Enough in Jesus
SLIDE 1 OF 5
“For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority” (Colossians 2:9-10).
Most of us have felt not good enough at some point in our lives. This can be due to bullying as a child, going through a break-up, or struggling with weight-related concerns. In truth, anything can make us feel not good enough if we have been hurt by others. Even a quick side-eye or a judgmental look can cause us to not feel good enough.
Whenever we don't feel good enough, we need to reflect on Colossians 2:9-10. This Bible passage tells us that we are enough because of Jesus. From the moment we place faith in Jesus, we are not lacking anything anymore. Although people might tell us we are missing something in our lives, our lives are already complete in Christ.
We are enough because Jesus is enough. Regardless of how we feel about ourselves, Jesus says we are enough in Him. As believers, we need to continue to recite this affirmation to ourselves daily. The more we say it to ourselves, the more we will believe and truly apply it to our lives.

2. I Am a Beloved Child of God

SLIDE 2 OF 5
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him” (1 John 3:1).
God loves us so much that we are His children. The Father sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins in order for us to have a repaired relationship with Him. Through Jesus’ death on the cross, we are now given the freedom to place faith in Him, receive forgiveness, and take hold of the promise of eternal life (John 3:16-17). God loved us even while we were walking in sin, and He desired for us to come to know Him (Romans 5:8; 1 Timothy 2:3-4).
There are many things in this world that can make us feel as though we are not beloved. Maybe a parent was mean to us and hurt us with their words or a friend betrayed our trust. Any of these things can make us doubt the love others have for us. This in turn, can cause us to doubt God’s love. Today, I want you to know that even if you feel nobody else loves you on this earth, God does.
You are His beloved child, and He loves you. There is never a day when He is not watching over you. Jesus tells us, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:28). Nobody can snatch you out of Jesus' hand. He will keep you protected during this life as well as the life to come. This shows us His loving nature and how we are His chicks under His wing (Matthew 23:37).

3. God’s Love for Me Has No Bounds

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:37-39).
The love of God cannot be measured in human terms. God’s love is boundless and always surrounds us. Whenever we are doubting His love, we need to recite the mental wellness affirmation: ‘God’s love for me has no bounds.” Even when we have hit rock bottom, God still loves us. Even if we are struggling with a sin in our lives, God still loves us.
His love for us is not based on what we do or don't do. Rather, God’s love is based on who He is (1 John 4:16). We are told from the Book of Jeremiah, “The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness’” (Jeremiah 31:3).
God loves us, and this will never change. Lean into his love and take heart when times are hard. Other people’s love for us might change, but God’s love is forever steadfast. Know you can turn to Him with anything and everything. No emotion, feeling, worry, or stressor is too much for Him.

4. By Jesus’ Wounds, I Am Healed

4. By Jesus’ Wounds, I Am Healed
SLIDE 4 OF 5
“‘He himself bore our sins,’ in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; ‘by his wounds you have been healed’” (1 Peter 2:24).
From 1 Peter 2:24, we obtain the affirmation, “By Jesus’ wounds, I am healed.” We can use this affirmation whenever we feel we are struggling with a past sin or we have a sin that keeps floating back into our mind. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, we are healed. He died the death we deserved in order for us to be forgiven. We don't need to overlook this blessing because we are healed and made new by the blood of the Lamb.
The devil likes to bring past sins into our minds and cause us to doubt our forgiveness from the Lord. When these thoughts come into our minds, we can fight them back with Scripture. By Jesus’ wounds, we are eternally healed. This means all of our past, present, and future sins are permanently forgiven. We don't need to play into the false narrative where we believe we are not forgiven, as it will only cause us to mentally and emotionally suffer.

5. I Am Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

5. I Am Fearfully and Wonderfully Made
SLIDE 5 OF 5
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well” (Psalm 139:13-14).
Within the modern age, there is an unhealthy obsession with appearance. Body image, weight, and size have been hot topics of the media for a long time, and sadly, it has even infiltrated the church. It is all too common for us to compare ourselves to others or feel inadequate because we don't look the same as others. We often belittle ourselves because we are not “small enough,” “pretty enough,” or “successful enough.”
When we struggle with these thoughts, we need to take hold of the mental affirmation of: "I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” God did not make a mistake when He created you, as everyone is unique, beautiful, and precious to God. As David says in Psalm 139:13-14, all of God’s works are wonderful, and that includes us. It can be hard to fully believe this at times, which is why we need to continue to recite this affirmation to ourselves every day.
By daily telling ourselves we are fearfully and wonderfully made, we will develop a better self-view of ourselves, and our mental health will begin to heal. Rather than always being beaten down, we will rise above the troublesome thoughts and become the confident individuals God wants us to be. Every single person is wonderful, amazing, and beautiful just as they are. We never need to feel like we have to change because God didn't make a single mistake when He created us. We are the fearfully and wonderfully made children of the King.
