10 Scriptures to Refresh Your Soul in the Heat of Summer

During the summer months, it is easy to get frustrated and overwhelmed. Due to the warm weather and the desire to do things we enjoy, we can often become quite upset with our present life situation. Regardless of what drains you over the summer, know that what can ultimately help all of us is to take time to pray to the Lord and study His Word. By praying and reflecting on the Bible, our souls will be refreshed.
Here are 10 scriptures to refresh your soul in the heat of the summer.
1. Isaiah 40:31
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:31).
This is a prophecy of Isaiah that will be fulfilled in the future. It will be fulfilled in the New Heaven and New Earth (Revelation 21). During the summer months, we need to be reminded of our eternal home in Heaven and later, in the New Heaven and New Earth. When we are worn out and can’t carry on, we can reflect upon Isaiah 40:31. There will come a day when the Lord will renew our strength and we will soar on wings like eagles.
We will run and walk and never get tired. As we are out on our daily walk or run during the warm summer months, we can reflect upon Isaiah 40:31 in new ways. We won’t always get tired or overcome by the uncomfortable outdoor environments. In the future, we will live in a perfect paradise with the Lord. This can refresh our souls during the long months of summer and give us the strength to keep going.

2. Psalm 23:1-3

2. Psalm 23:1-3
SLIDE 1 OF 4
“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake” (Psalm 23:1-3).
Psalm 23 is a beloved psalm for many reasons. It reminds us that Jesus is our Good Shepherd, He will protect us, and He will refresh our souls. This is ultimately what we need during the heat of summer. We need to sit at Jesus’ feet and allow Him to give us what our souls need. When we walk with the Lord, we will lack nothing. He guides us along the right path and will bring us safely to His Heavenly Kingdom.
Don’t allow the worries of the summer or the extreme heat to make you doubt Jesus. He will refresh our souls if we turn to Him. He will pick us up and set our feet on steady ground (Psalm 40:2). Trust in Him and allow the refreshing Word of the Lord to help you make it through the heat of summer. Jesus will ensure you remain steadfast, strong, and faithful.
3. Jeremiah 31:25
“I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint” (Jeremiah 31:25).
Jeremiah was a prophet to Judah, and he was known as the weeping prophet due to what he saw during his lifetime. For this particular passage of Jeremiah 31:25, God is speaking to Judah, and He tells them that He will bring them out of exile and home to Judah (Jeremiah 31:23-24). This would have brought much relief to the listeners of Jeremiah’s prophecy. They knew God was going to refresh them and save them from exile.
Although we may not be in exile from our own home country, we might be in exile from something this summer. Think about what your exile may be and know that God will bring you home. This period of time will not endure forever. God will give you relief and refresh your soul. Praise be to God that He refreshes the weary and satisfies the faint! Without Him, we truly would be nothing.

4. Genesis 8:22

4. Genesis 8:22
SLIDE 2 OF 4
“As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease” (Genesis 8:22).
When God first created the world and everything in it, there were no extreme temperatures or extreme weather. Most likely, there were going to be four seasons, but they would not be overly cold or uncomfortably warm. However, due to the fall of mankind, the seasons and the weather have become extreme, such as the extreme summers we experience in various areas of the world. Despite these extreme climates, the Earth still endures, and as long as the Earth endures, cold, heat, summer, winter, day, and night will never end.
Summers will continue to come, but God will get us relief. Autumn will eventually come, and we will be met with the cool air, crisp leaves, and cooler weather. When we think about it, it is only a few months away. After autumn, winter will come, and we will be faced with colder weather again. Once winter ends, spring will bloom, and we will be refreshed from the cold weather we have been experiencing. Regardless of the season, God will keep them moving and ensure we are not stuck in any one season for too long.
5. Psalm 113:3
“From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised” (Psalm 113:3).
During the summer months, the days are longer. The sun doesn’t go down as fast, and we are happier because the sun is still shining at 8 p.m. Sadly, when winter comes and it is dark by 5 p.m., it can be hard to be optimistic. Therefore, we need to take advantage of these longer days and praise God from the rising of the sun to the setting of the sun. The Name of the Lord shall be praised forever because He has refreshed our souls by the beautiful sunsets, the longer days, and the opportunity to see God’s beauty in nature.

6. Galatians 6:9

6. Galatians 6:9
SLIDE 3 OF 4
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9).
If you feel like giving up over the summer months, know you are not alone. Regardless of your long-term goals, it can be hard to maintain them over the summer months. Whenever you feel like giving up, reflect upon the Apostle Paul’s words in Galatians 6:9. Continue to do good in your walk with God, to try your best at work, and to spend quality time with your family. You will reap a harvest at the proper time if you don’t give up.
7. Ecclesiastes 3:1-3
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-3).
During summer, it is common that we often think about how fast the year is going, and this can make us feel stressed. Time can feel like it is slipping away. God will bring calmness to our souls by pointing us to Ecclesiastes 3:1-3. There is a time for everything and a season for each activity under the sun. Some seasons will be harder than others, but we have various seasons for a reason. Maybe summer is hard for you because a loved one passed away during this time. Know that the Lord will surround you with the support, grace, love, and refreshment that you need during this difficult time.
8. Colossians 2:9-10
“For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority” (Colossians 2:9-10).
The summer months can cause us to be disheartened because we have to see ourselves in different clothes, possibly clothes that are shorter, in order to keep ourselves cooler. For some of us, this can be uncomfortable and make us feel bad about ourselves. Whenever this happens to us over the summer, we need to reflect upon Colossians 2:9-10. Our souls can be refreshed by knowing that we have been brought to fullness in Christ. This means we lack nothing, we are eternally loved by Him, and we are enough. Even if our minds try to tell us otherwise, we can fight back against these thoughts with the power of God’s Word this summer.

9. Matthew 11:28-30

9. Matthew 11:28-30
SLIDE 4 OF 4
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).
Without a doubt, most of us have felt weary and burdened over the summer because of the severe heat. Whenever this happens, we need to go to the Lord and follow His teachings in Matthew 11:28-30. We can take up Jesus’ yoke and learn from Him. The Lord is gentle and humble in heart, and He will help us to find rest for our souls. Although we may struggle during the summer months, we can still come to Him and find rest. He will give our hearts what they need and refresh our souls.
10. Psalm 46:1-3
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging” (Psalm 46:1-3).
This summer might hold many challenges for us, but we are not without hope. Just as Psalm 46:1-3 tells us, God is our refuge, our strength, and our ever-present help in trouble. We don’t need to fear because God is in control. Even if the earth gives way, the mountains fall into the sea, the waters roar and foam, and the mountains quake, God is still in control and He is protecting us.
Don’t fear this summer, but instead, find comfort in knowing God will refresh your soul whenever you need. He will forever be walking beside you and gracing you with His presence, love, and encouragement. The summer might continue to get warmer, but better days are coming. With every step we take, we need to remember that God is our refuge, our strength, and our ever-present help in trouble. He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).
