5 Ways John MacArthur’s Teachings Have Strengthened Christian Families for Generations

John MacArthur is an American pastor, theologian, and author who founded the Grace to You ministry, a Christian radio and television program that teaches the Bible. He began pastoring the non-denominational Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, in 1969. Since then, his ministry has grown and touched the lives of many Christians.

MacArthur used expository preaching, which detailed the meaning of a particular passage of Scripture. His teachings have helped grow our collective understanding of who God is, and consequently, he has been recognized as one of the more influential preachers of his time. In addition to his teachings, he has also written or edited more than 150 books.

John MacArthur has strengthened Christian families in so many ways for generations. He has created blogs, books, podcasts, sermons, devotionals, supported Christian higher education, and created a thriving church community. His legacy will surely outlive him, and his ministry will continue to bless the Christian community for many years.

1. Grace to You Blog Offers Practical Biblical Teachings for Families

Family reading the Bible

Grace to You, John MacArthur's most notable ministry, offers much support for families. Their blog contains biblical teachings supporting biblical family values. His words are full of wisdom, and each concept he offers us to digest is thoroughly backed by Scripture.

John MacArthur writes, "One of the reasons we extended the creation series over several months was due to the intensity of opposition to the biblical view of origins, not just by the world, but by members of the professing church. The Bible's teaching on the family, closely related to the doctrine of creation, has likewise been attacked and subverted from the very beginning, since Genesis 3."

His passion for the family is evident! He saw that our culture is becoming more aggressively anti-family. There is so much need for sound teachings that point us back to what God's word teaches and how to share this truth with the next generation, even when it's not a popular opinion. Part of his mission was to offer material that shows God's design for our families.

2. Grace to You Sermons Offers Detailed Biblical Teachings

John MacArthur speaking

John MacArthur recorded countless teachings that the world can easily access via the Internet! If you browse this amazing online collection, you can find teachings on numerous topics. Families can go to this beautiful place to boost their understanding of God's word, and it just takes a few clicks to welcome this truth into your home.

In his sermon, Divine Wisdom for the Family, he offers insight beyond trends and points us to God's holy truth.

MacArthur preaches, "Number one, fear your God, fear your God. Chapter 1, verse 7, 'The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.' Proverbs 9:10, 'The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy is understanding.' Everything starts when you fear God. And if you go through Proverbs, this is what you find. Those who fear God are promised prolonged life, blessing upon blessing, far beyond wealth. They are promised an abundant richness in life and that they will never be turned over completely to evil."

He tells us parents, "We must teach our kids the fear of the Lord if we want to show them the way to an abundant life." His teachings are filled with Scripture and don't shy away from the ancient truth in God's Word. These teachings are a timeless treasure that families can easily access and learn from.

3. John MacArthur Has Created Numerous Books That Support Families

3. John MacArthur Has Created Numerous Books That Support Families

John MacArthur has created a vast library of books that families can use as a resource as they seek to guide their families on their faith journey. There are so many titles that both address how our faith impacts family and marriage, but all of his work can help strengthen the family unit.

One title from his collection is The Fulfilled Family: God's Design for Your Home. This book begins by reminding us that Christ is the head of a healthy home. While others without Christ may appear to be living well, we see a void in spiritual development when we investigate more. We were all made to worship; without God in our homes, we are left searching.

Some other great titles that support families include What the Bible Says About Parenting. He shares his wisdom as a father of four, grandfather of nine, and pastor to thousands. This practical advice for biblical parenting is so helpful in a day and age where there is endless conflicting information on what we should be doing as parents.

Divine Design: God's Complementary Roles for Men and Women (Discussion Guide Included) helps us understand what the Bible says about marriage and how men and women can complement each other. Marriage is holy work and we need God's help to make our unions last a lifetime.

Brave Dad: Raising Your Kids to Love and Follow God encourages men to be strong spiritual leaders in their homes. The Silent Shepherd: The Care, Comfort, and Correction of the Holy Spirit (John Macarthur Study) is another excellent resource for families. It illustrates how we as parents can learn to follow the Holy Spirit. When we trust his guidance, we cannot fail.
