8 Family Prayers for Resurrection Sunday

Resurrection Sunday is a day when we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. As a family, we should come together to worship the Lord with hearts of praise. Although Easter is often associated with the Easter Bunny, egg hunts, or commercialism, we must help our families understand the true meaning of Easter. A great place to start is by leading the family in prayer.
Begin each day with prayer. Give thanks to the Lord, present your requests to Him, and soak in His love. Trust Him with the difficult feelings and praise Him for the feelings of hope. Here are 8 prayers for the entire family this Resurrection Sunday.

Dear Jesus, my family comes before You this Resurrection Sunday to worship You. How mighty and amazing You are! You have defeated death and risen from the grave. There is no reason to be afraid of what this world holds. You are greater than all things.
You died for the sins of the world. This includes my family’s sins. Thank You for loving us and going to such drastic measures to redeem us. Your love is boundless. We give You all the praise, thanks, and worship, Lord. Glory to You in the highest. Amen.
2. A Prayer to Stay Focused on Jesus
“Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2).
Dear Jesus, Easter is often associated with materialism. Regrettably, my family and I have celebrated Easter in this way for many years. I do not want to celebrate as the world does. Instead, I want to celebrate You. Please help my family and me to stay focused on You this Resurrection Sunday.
Erase any desire to follow the teachings of the world. Easter is about Your defeat of death—the most amazing feat in history. No one else has died and returned to life. Thank You for dying for our sins, Lord. You have been raised in glory! Amen.

“For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him” (1 Thessalonians 4:14).
Dear Lord, for many years, multiple people within my family have been afraid of death. The fear of death makes us feel trapped at times. We all know it is coming, but we do not want to talk about it. This Resurrection Sunday, help us to remember that You defeated death. There is no reason to fear it anymore.
Since You died for our sins, You have paid our sin debt in full. We have placed faith in You, which means we have been given salvation. Now that we belong to You, we will never be condemned. Thank You for Your wonderful gift of redemption. We don't have to fear death anymore. Hallelujah! Amen.
4. A Prayer to Grow as a Christ Follower
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness” (Colossians 2:6-7).
Dear Christ, Resurrection Sunday can often be overlooked. My family and I want to change the dialogue—please help us to grow as Christ followers during this season of Lent and Easter.
Help us to cultivate the fruits of the Spirit, to trust You amidst the storms of life, and to love others as You love us. Bless us with opportunities to be patient, kind, and caring. Transform our hearts to reflect Your own. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.

“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die’” (John 11:25).
Dear Lord, You are the resurrection and the life. Since my family and I believe in You, we will live, even though we will die. This brings much peace, hope, and rest in our hearts. You have already finished the race for us. We are reaping the benefits of Your great sacrifice, although we did nothing to earn them.
We are resting in Your resurrection today. We don't have to strive to be “the best” or to be “perfect.” You have already made us complete. Salvation is based on You. All praise, glory, and honor belongs to You forever, Jesus. Amen.

“And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground” (Luke 22:44).
Dear Jesus, my family and I may never fully understand Your suffering. You were in so much pain that You sweated blood. This shows the mental anguish You were in. You already knew how much pain You would experience on the cross, yet You did it anyway. You died the death we deserved because You love us.
Thank You for Your amazing love, Lord. We don't deserve You. Help us to understand Your suffering more this year. You experienced complete separation from the Father on the cross for our sins. This had to be immensely painful. You did all of this for us. I praise You for Your saving grace and love, Jesus. Amen.

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21).
Dear Father, You raised Your Son from the grave. This is amazing, but my family and I already know that nothing is too hard for You. Help us to reflect on Your power this Resurrection Sunday. We want to admire the work of Your hands and Your mighty deeds throughout time.
You raised Jesus from the dead—there is nothing that You cannot do. Please help my family and me reflect on this truth when the days grow dark. Help us to remember that You can do greater things than we could ever imagine. All hope is not lost because eternal hope is found in You. Amen.
8. A Prayer to Praise God’s Love
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).
Dear God, out of Your boundless love, You sent Your Son to die for the sins of the world. This alone attests to the love You have for us. Although we don't deserve Your love, You richly bless us with Your care, support, and love. You are our good, good Father, who is always looking out for us. It is amazing to know You, God.
Nothing in all creation can separate my family and me from Your love. Your love is boundless and unconditional. Help my family and me to fully grasp Your love this Easter Sunday. You transformed our lives by Your love. My family and I will serve You for all our days. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.

Bring Your Own Prayers to the Lord This Resurrection Sunday

Be unique and craft your own prayer this Resurrection Sunday, too. What are you currently going through? Perhaps the ending of a career, a divorce, or the death of a loved one. Bring these concerns to the Lord and talk with Him about them. It is okay to be sad this Resurrection Sunday. You can still worship the Lord with a heart focused on Him.
Encourage your kids to bring their feelings to the Lord, too. Help them to know that Jesus cares about all their feelings. Pray as a family and pray individually. The Lord loves to hear from your family. Rest in His peace this Resurrection Sunday.
