4 Things Moms Really Want on Mother's Day

4 Things Moms Really Want on Mother's Day

I have an entire drawer full of cards, trinkets, and homemade crafts my kids have given me for Mother's Day over the years. They are fun to look at and bring back wonderful memories of when they were young. I suppose every mom enjoys these heartfelt gifts - even if it is macaroni glued to construction paper!

However, when was the last time we asked Mom what she really wanted for Mother's Day? We might be surprised at the answer! Here are four things most moms would truly enjoy on their special day. I hope it gives you a few ideas for your celebration and helps you appreciate Mom in a new way. (No macaroni included!)

1. Moms Want a Break!

The full plate of motherhood includes heaping piles of laundry, overflowing stacks of dishes, and crying children that only want Mommy. And the truth is, moms need a break! This Mother's Day, why not give the mom in your life some peace and rest? Here are a few creative ideas:

-Take the kids for an early-morning breakfast and allow Mom to sleep in as late as she wants.

-Create an at-home spa with candles around the tub and a stack of books to enjoy.

-Catch up on all the laundry for the week.

-Give a gift certificate for a house-cleaning service.

-Encourage her to plan a girl's night out in the near future.

Giving Mom a break allows her to relax and recharge, which is essential for both her physical and mental well-being. While she might not admit it, she needs regular time to herself in order to feel her best.

Here's a prayer for moms who need a break:

Gracious God, please bless every tired mom today and give them the strength they need. Lord, thank You for all moms do for their families - all the things that go unnoticed. How amazing they are in loving and serving their families! Let this Mother's Day be a day of rest and recovery for them, allowing them to have a break and recharge. In Jesus' name, amen.

2. Moms Wants to Be Together as a Family

With the day-to-day responsibilities keeping moms and dads busy, it can feel like everyone is running in different directions. Most moms just want to be together on Mother's Day and feel the cohesiveness they miss during the work week.

Here are some fun family activities you can enjoy as you spend time together:

-Hiking, biking, or taking a nature walk

-Going to the movie theater and indulging in popcorn and candy

-Taking a drive in the country with worship music playing

-Picking out new paint colors for the house

-Shopping for garden plants

-Watching old home movies

Because moms often feel like the glue that keeps everyone together, they naturally treasure opportunities to be united as a family. Mother's Day is one of the few occasions where moms feel ultra-connected to their kids and spouses, and it's something they likely look forward to year after year.

Here's a prayer for family unity:

Lord God, please bring families together this Mother's Day and reunite them in a meaningful way. Remove all distractions and help moms feel reconnected again. Bless them with contentedness and peace as they enjoy every relaxing moment with their husbands and children. Thank You, Lord, in Jesus' name, amen.

3. Moms Want Gifts that Pamper Them

To feel pampered as a mom is a wonderful feeling, and Mother's Day is the perfect time to give gifts that promote well-being. The important thing is to pay attention to Mom's needs and choose gifts that meet her right where she's at. Here are several ways to pamper the mom in your life:

-Enroll her in the local fitness class she's been wanting to try.

-Gift her a set of essential oils and a quality diffuser.

-Subscribe her to a monthly gift box for gourmet coffee, flower bouquets, meal kits, etc.

-Find local classes that fit her interests, such as art, music, or cooking.

-Schedule a spa day complete with massage, facial, hair, and nails.

Often, the key to Mom's heart is to shower her with gifts that help her feel her best. Let her know how much you love her by giving her things she will continue to enjoy in the days ahead.

Here is a prayer for a mom's well-being:

Holy God, thank You for creating mothers in such a unique way. Truly, they are remarkable women who make the world a better place. Please help us find gifts that pamper them and help them feel their best. Tune our hearts to their needs and lead us to the right products and services that will make them feel extra special this Mother's Day. In Jesus' name, amen.

4. Moms Want the Appreciation to Continue

While Mother's Day is the perfect time to let moms know how much they are appreciated, the truth is moms want to feel appreciated every day of the year. Make it a priority to let the mother figure in your life know how valued she is, and keep gratitude at the forefront of your relationship.

Here are a few ways to verbalize how much you appreciate your mom:

"I appreciate the sacrifices you've made and your commitment to raising us in a Christian home."

"Your prayers, guidance, and encouragement have been a source of comfort for me. Thank you, Mom."

"Thank you for being a Godly role model and for showing us what it means to follow Christ. I want to follow your example in my own life."

"Today and every day, I celebrate you for the amazing mom you are."

Ultimately, moms want to be recognized every day of the year because they put their heart and soul into making our lives better. Their sacrificial efforts should be acknowledged daily, not just on Mother's Day. Therefore, giving moms a day of rest, time with family, gifts that pamper, and deep appreciation for who they are is essential. Happiest Mother's Day!
