Christian Camp Leader Gregg Hunter Talks Safety Lessons from Camp Mystic Texas Flood
Gregg Hunter, president and CEO of the Christian Camp and Conference Association (CCCA), says the Texas flood tragedy has prompted Christian camps nationwide to reexamine and strengthen their safety protocols. Although Camp Mystic was not part of the association, many parents still reached out to CCCA camps with concerns, and camp leaders responded by enhancing training and communication measures. Hunter emphasized that safety is always “priority No. 1” as he highlighted the unique role camps play in helping children unplug from technology, encounter God’s creation, and grow in their faith. Sharing his own story of transformation at a Christian camp, he underscored how these settings continue to change lives and lead children and teens to Christ. Between 33 and 40 percent of children who attend a Christian camp make a first-time commitment to Jesus, he said.
