Aging, grief, changing health, family transitions, disappointment, or simply realizing that life looks different from what you imagined can leave us longing for another time. We look backward at what we've lost or forward to what we hope will change, while quietly resisting the life we're actually living today.

In this Your Nightly Prayer devotional, Candice Lucey reflects honestly on entering her fifties and discovering both the losses and unexpected gifts that come with aging. There are physical changes, people she misses, and reminders that life does not remain the same forever. Yet there is also wisdom, resilience, perspective, and a deeper confidence in God's faithfulness—gifts that could only have developed through years of walking with Him. Ecclesiastes 3:11 reminds us that God sees a much larger story than we can see from our present moment.

Receiving the season you're in does not mean denying grief, calling every painful circumstance good, or believing you should never desire change. Scripture gives us room to lament, seek help, acknowledge disappointment, and ask God for something different. But even in a season we would never have chosen, we can ask God for new eyes to recognize where beauty, wisdom, compassion, endurance, or deeper faith may already be growing. Like flowers emerging from scorched ground, some forms of beauty become visible only with time.

If you're struggling with getting older, grieving what used to be, facing an unwanted transition, or constantly wishing you were somewhere else in life, tonight is an invitation to loosen your grip on what you thought this season should look like. You may not understand everything God is doing, and some questions may remain unanswered. But you can trust that this chapter is not outside His reach. Ask Him to meet you here, help you receive today's grace, and show you the beauty you may not yet have noticed.
