Did Adam and Eve Really Exist? Why Is This Idea Essential to the Gospel Message?

That is a good question. Why I would be so adamant about defending the history of Adam and Eve and really it's quite simple, Jesus clearly believed that Adam and Eve were real people - go read Matthew 19. And so the issue is Christological. If Adam and Eve were not real historical persons, then either 1) Jesus willing deceived us or number 2) Jesus was ignorant, and I can't find the ability to ascribe ignorance to God. And he was the God-man.

And so, it is a Christological issue at its core. Secondly, Paul builds a whole system of theology around the first Adam, and the second Adam. One brought death to all, one brings life to all who are in him. (Romans 5, 1 Corinthians 15). And so when you hear both the testimony of Jesus and the theology and the testimony of the witness of Paul, it seems very clear to me that God inspired Paul and Jesus, as God, understood Adam and Eve to be the primordial parents of us all, and therefore, for me, that just is not negotiable.

8. Jesus himself taught that the Bible is 100% accurate.

Jesus Christ used the Bible continually in his ministry:

He called it “the Word of God” (Mark 7:13) and “the commandment of God” (Mark 7:8).

He accepted that the persons and events mentioned in the Scriptures were historical: Adam and Eve; Noah and the flood; Lot's wife; Jonah and the big fish; and Satan during His temptations.

Let me conclude by encouraging you to dig deeply into the Word of God and pursue your own understanding of its teachings, origin, and authenticity.
