A Rest For Your Soul-Part 8
May 28, 2014
Hebrews 4:9-10– “There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.
The Bible talks about a number of rests. There is creation rest, where God created the heavens and the earth and then He rested. There is also what is called Calvary rest. Jesus Christ bearing our sin upon His body on the cross, cried out, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” He died bearing all of your sin and mine. There is a rest from the burden of service, busy for God, performance mind set. There is the rest from the burden of self, it is no longer my way it’s God’s way. It is no longer I, but Christ. There is another rest for the believer, it is the rest of surrender, when you say as a Christian during your life on this earth, “I choose to let it be no longer I but Christ. I choose to be weak that He might be strong in me. I decrease that He might increase.” This is the rest of surrender for a spirit-filled believer. Then the Bible teaches there is a future rest. What is a future rest? Praise God, it is absent in the body and present with the Lord!
