Focus on the Judge, not the injustice
I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and justice for the poor. Psalms 140:12 (NKJV)
Injustice is a non-negotiable part of the human experience. From Cain's killing of Abel to today's headlines, injustice will always be with us. We live in a fallen world where sin runs rampant, and as long as there's sin, you can also guarantee the presence of injustice.
Let's be honest; injustice is very difficult to deal with. We see something take place that's wrong, and we experience inner anguish. "That's not right! That needs to be set straight!" God has given us a built-in sense of right and wrong. And every unjust act cuts against the grain of our God-given conscience.
Now, there's a real danger here. As right as it is to be outraged by wrong, we run a real risk of succumbing to sin when we simply focus on the injustices around us. We can store it up and seethe with anger until we eventually find ourselves poisoned and overcome by it. Suffice it to say, focusing on injustice isn't the answer.
The answer is to do what David does here in Psalm 140. Rather than preoccupy himself with the injustice of man, he chooses to focus on the Judge. He understood that the Lord will eventually settle every score and bring justice to every situation. And this confidence allowed David to overcome the injustices around him.
We can't escape injustice in this life, but we can rest in the knowledge that the Lord is the one who will deal with it. Focus on injustice and you'll be frustrated and falter. But if you instead focus on the Judge, you will be able to rise above the injustices in life.
Judge over all things, give us the wisdom and strength to focus on You in the midst of life's injustices.
