He can do that!
“Everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.” John 6:40 (NKJV)
Eternity and resurrection are infinitely linked. For when we leave this life, this world, and this physical body and step into our eternal state, we’re going to be resurrected and receive a brand new body that will serve us for all eternity. We see eternity and the resurrection joined in Jesus’ promise to “raise up” everyone who has eternal life by believing in Him.
Jesus says He will resurrect those who believe in Him. But when it comes to something as important as this, wouldn’t it be nice to see some sort of proof or evidence that He’s able to make good on His promise? It would, and we do, because Jesus not only claimed to be able to raise the dead, He actually demonstrated it…no less than three times!
The Gospel of Matthew tells us that Jesus raised the daughter of man named Jairus from the dead. The fact that she was actually dead is well substantiated by the fact that they had already begin to mourn over her when He arrived on the scene. Yet, He took her by the hand and the mourning turned to stunned confusion (Matthew 9:18-25).
The Gospel of Luke records the second time Christ raised someone from the dead. He came across a funeral procession for a boy who had left behind a widowed mother. Again, Jesus stepped into the sorrowful situation and death was transformed into life (Luke 7:11-15).
The Gospel of John recounts the third resurrection the Lord performed. This time, it involved His friend Lazarus. He has been dead and buried for a full four days, and his passing was a foregone conclusion. But Jesus did the unthinkable and rescued His friend from the grave (John 11:38-44).
Jesus promises do the same for us in eternity…and we don’t have to question or worry about His ability to do so.
