A Bigger Plan

On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they killed the Passover lamb, His disciples said to Him, “Where do You want us to go and prepare, that You may eat the Passover?” Mark 14:12 (NKJV)

Once a year, Jerusalem would swell with Jewish pilgrims who came to observe Passover. Some suggest the city tripled in population during this sacred celebration.

So, when the disciples asked Jesus where He planned on eating the Passover meal, space and supplies were limited. Maybe the disciples were even thinking, “It’s too late to make the proper arrangements.” As far as they knew, nothing had been done in advance to secure what would be needed. But watch the Lord’s response:

He sent out two of His disciples and said to them, “Go into the city, and a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him. Wherever he goes in, say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’ Then he will show you a large upper room, furnished and prepared; there make ready for us.” Mark 14:13-15 (NKJV)

Jesus already had their Passover needs covered. There was an unnamed man in the city with all the space and supplies they would need, and he was more than willing to put it all at their disposal! It’s fascinating that none of the disciples had the slightest idea about any of this. They had been with Jesus for just about every waking moment, yet somehow He had made these arrangements without their knowledge. Jesus had a bigger plan than they realized.

So it is with us. We see a need in our lives, but we don’t see how it’s going to be met. There’s a shortage of space, supplies, or a multitude of other things. How in the world will we make it? But all along, unbeknownst to us, Jesus has a bigger plan. He has resources at His disposal we’re not even aware of. And when they are needed, He faithfully provides them to us.

Think About It…
What does this passage reveal to me about God?
What does this passage reveal to me about myself?
Based on this, what changes do I need to make?
What is my prayer for today?
