Eternal Proof

Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. Mark 16:2 (NKJV)

Jesus had fulfilled His purpose for visiting our poor planet. He sacrificially offered Himself on the Cross so that our sins could be covered and forgiven. His lifeless body was taken and placed in a tomb that was sealed over with an enormous stone.

Some of the women who faithfully followed Jesus decided to visit the tomb. In their minds, Jesus was gone. He had died and that was that, but it didn’t kill their love for Him. They wanted to do something sacrificial for Him and they sought out the opportunity to do so by embalming His body.

As they neared the tomb, they began to wonder how they would remove the stone that stood between them and their mission. But when they arrived, they were surprised to see that the stone had already been rolled away. They entered the tomb, and didn’t see a dead body, but an angel, who told them something neither they nor the world would ever forget:

“Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him…go, tell His disciples—and Peter—that He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, as He said to you.” Mark 16:6-7 (NKJV)

It was the greatest news ever announced! Jesus died to cover the cost of man’s sin, but it didn’t end there. If it did, who’s to say His death actually accomplished anything? From man’s perspective, Christ’s death would have been like any other. But by being resurrected from the dead, there’s eternal proof that He was who He said He was, and His death did what He said it would!

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” John 5:24 (NKJV)

What does this passage reveal to me about God?
What does this passage reveal to me about myself?
Based on this, what changes do I need to make?
