Those who seek…
But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus…” Mark 16:6 (NKJV)
Yesterday, we saw an encounter between an angel and some women who had faithfully followed Jesus. The angel identified them as those who “seek Jesus,” and there are four lessons we see in their example when it comes to seeking Jesus.
Keep in mind that they set out to visit Jesus’ tomb in order to embalm His dead body (Mark 16:1). To them, He was gone and had nothing whatsoever to offer them anymore. Their act to do something special for His body was completely sacrificial on their part. And so it is with those who seek Jesus; they don’t serve Him for their own gain but want to serve and bless Him out of a sacrificial love.
We also know they were concerned about how they would remove the stone that covered the tomb’s entrance. Yet when they arrived, it was already gone. It had been supernaturally rolled away (Mark 16:4). Those who seek Jesus often find that the obstacles in life are supernaturally removed for them. God goes before them and prepares the way for them to serve Him.
Also, we can’t help but notice that the angel tells the women, “Do not be alarmed.” Obviously, seeing a supernatural being is going to have an emotional effect on anybody. But those who seek Jesus don’t have to be afraid of the supernatural. They don’t have anything to be afraid of because they are loved and protected by God Himself!
Lastly, the women were told to go and tell the disciples the news of Christ’s resurrection (Mark 16:7). Those who seek Jesus have a mission to fulfill. They’re called to share the news that Jesus is no longer in the tomb but has risen from the dead.
As those who seek Jesus, our lives are to be about serving Jesus, not ourselves. We can count on seeing our obstacles supernaturally removed as we set out to serve. We don’t have to be afraid. And we’re entrusted with sharing the greatest news that can ever be given, that Jesus is risen and alive today!
