Jesus in a Box
by Berni Dymet

Mark 3:21 When his family heard it, they went out to restrain him, for people were saying, "He has gone out of his mind."

If God is God - then He's vast, eternal, omnipotent and omnipresent.  If God is God…then He's utterly beyond our comprehension.  And there's the problem.

Because I for one can't cope with that and so what I tend to do is to put Him in a box; to put boundaries and limits on Him - because I can't cope with a limitless God.  Hopefully today I have Him in a much bigger box than last year, but a box nevertheless.

It's interesting that when Jesus went around preaching and healing people and crowds flocked to Him - that even His own family thought He'd gone stark raving mad.  Mark Chapter 3, verse 21.  And the religious leaders thought He was a demon.

So me and my box - well it's nothing new.  People have been misunderstanding Jesus for thousands of years.

And you know, the more I read about this radical, untamed Jesus - the more I realize that He just isn't some tin pot little god I can keep in a box.
