An Uncomfortable Truth

by Berni Dymet

Matt. 7:21 "Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven."

There are whole bunches of people wandering around this planet imagining vaguely somehow, that when they die, they'll "go to heaven."  Their basis for coming to that conclusion is that they kind of believe in Jesus.

That's great. But let me tell you what Jesus had to say about that. Hold onto your hat - listen closely - these are His words not mine:

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.

There's a reason for that. It's not that He means for us to work our way into heaven - no.  God forgiving us is a free gift.  It's an act of grace purchased by the death of His Son at the Cross.

What He's saying is that when we accept Him into our hearts, our lives are supposed to be different.  Our lives should bear fruit.  If they don't, then there's something drastically wrong.

What we believe, is demonstrated by what we do.
