Flying off the Handle
by Berni Dymet
Psa. 103:8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
Flying off the handle is a term that these days, we know only too well. You see it almost every day. Horns honking in a traffic jam. Sharp words.
In fact the busier we get, the more pressure we're under, the more prone we are to fly off the handle. To let resentment and anger and retribution win out.
And when this anger's on a hair trigger - when just the slightest amount of pressure sets it off - that's ugly. I mean really! And sadly, we've almost come to expect it. In many quarters, it's become the norm.
So we do one thing wrong - and we expect God's wrath to come crashing down on us like a ton of bricks. We struggle with something in our lives - and we expect that God will punish us.
But that's not it. Because, He punished Jesus instead. Turns out that He's merciful, gracious - slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
And that - that my friend changes everything.
