Psalms 29Luke 24:28-53

Thought From Today’s Old Testament Passage:

Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defense to save me [Ps. 31:2].

We need a strong rock—not just some little pebble. “He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matt. 16:15–18). The Rock upon which the church is built is Christ. “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 3:11). The Savior, Jesus Christ, is the strong Rock upon which we can rest. I am reminded of the little Scottish lady who was talking about her salvation and her assurance of it: “There are times when I am frightened and I tremble on the Rock, but the Rock never trembles under me.” It is a strong Rock.
