Let Jesus be Lord of your whole life

“I stopped believing in Santa Claus when I was six. Mother took me to see him in a department store and he asked for my autograph.”– Shirley Temple Black

The Christian life is like a gift exchange – just like on Christmas when you exchange presents with each other. But in this ultimate gift exchange, God has already gone first. He has given His Son.

When the gracious magnitude of this gift is realized, the natural response of gratitude shouts from within, “I want to give something back!" But then, the question pops into your mind: What do you give the guy who REALLY has everything? I give back to Him the one thing He does not have: Me! My heart and my life.

Hmmm. If that seems like a lot to ask, you’re not alone. Many who lived in the same time and place as Jesus refused to give themselves to Him. King Herod is an extreme example (but not more extreme than many of us!).

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”– Matthew 2:1

Imagine you are King Herod, you are the King of the Jews, and someone comes to you and says, "Hey, where's the real King?" What's your initial reaction? I AM the king! To stay on the throne, Herod devised a plot to destroy the child.

When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him… he asked them where the Messiah was to be born… “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.– Matthew 2:3, 4, 8

Herod had the words, but his heart wasn’t in it. History tells the rest of the story – and the story is reenacted every time we say we want to worship Jesus, and yet refuse to submit to Him as our King of kings and Lord of lords. This Christmas season, be available to worship Him in authenticity as King and Lord.

Jesus Christ, by faith, by the power and leading of Your Spirit in me, I ask that You will search my heart and show me where I still try to be king. By Your grace, I give those areas of my life to You as well. You are Lord and King of everything. I humbly give all of myself to You. Amen.
