Mary Christmas or Martha Christmas?

Hey, it’s Christmas. What are you doing checking your emails anyway?!

Why don’t you click out right now and go hang out with family and friends or go call a long-lost comrade who could use a word of encouragement today? Or best yet, take a lesson from two sisters, Mary and Martha:

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”– Luke 10:38-42

This crazy holiday can take a lot out of you, and the preparations can be major distractions from the “only one thing” you need. What if you took a breather and “sat at the Lord's feet” today, “listening to what he said” for a while?

Jesus, my Lord and my Friend, thank You for being a place for me to rest in the middle of the chaos. In my heart, I envision myself sitting at Your feet now, resting in who You are and who I am in You. Thank You for coming into this world. Thanks for coming into my life. Speak truth to me, Jesus. I'm listening. Amen.
