Have You Ever?
The heavens tell of the glory of God. The skies display his marvelous craftsmanship
(Psalm 19:1, NLT
Have you ever just paused to reflect on the greatness of God, to look upon Him in wonder, and from deep within yourself spontaneously express praise and worship to Him?
O wonder of wonders! Whenever I think about His greatness, glory, holiness and His many other attributes, I often find myself in tears of gratitude.
Recently, Michael and Elizabeth watched a fireworks display with two of their young nieces. Dozens of adults saw the fireworks too. The event showed quite a contrast in attitudes.
Adults and children alike stood on the same hill overlooking the city, but an apathetic silence hung over the "grown-ups" as the night sky lit up. However, the children oooooed and ahhhhed loudly at each burst of light!
With no inhibition, the kids shouted the names of the colors exploding in the sky. They expressed a wonder over the fireworks. They could not comprehend them, yet they fully appreciated them, their beauty and their power.
How I wish we grown-ups would have such child-like enthusiasm when it comes to expressing excitement for our Lord, for who He is and for His marvelous works.
Just imagine this all-powerful, holy Creator, who spoke and more than 100 billion galaxies were formed by His word of power, loving us so much that He sent His only begotten Son to die for our sins, and who has prepared an eternal place for us in heaven. That is something to shout about -- more so than any sports event we will ever see!
If you have not done so before, or lately, I urge you to review God's attributes, as revealed in His Word. Some years ago the Lord put it on my heart to do an intensive study and write a book about the attributes of God, which I did recently. It was one of the most moving experiences of my life as I gained new insights about this Wonderful One. The book is, "GOD: Discover His Character," examines many of His attributes. It is available from NewLife Publications (see info below).
God is infinite; we will spend eternity getting to know Him better. But we can start now with what He has revealed to us in the Bible. Jesus said, "Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent" (John 17:3, NIV).
Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission each year until our Lord returns,
