Under The Microscope

Nothing in all creation can hide from him. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes (Hebrews 4:13).

Dear friends:

Have you ever wondered why many people have such an aversion to the Bible?  This story will help explain.

It is told that many years ago, while on a visit to England, a wealthy businessman was fascinated by a powerful microscope.  Looking through its lens to study crystals and the petals of flowers, he was amazed at their beauty and detail.  He decided to purchase a microscope for his own and take it back home.

He thoroughly enjoyed using it until one day he examined some food he was planning to eat for dinner.  Much to his dismay, he discovered that tiny living creatures were crawling in it.  Since he was especially fond of this particular food, he wondered what to do.  Finally, he concluded that there was only one way out of his dilemma.  He would destroy the instrument that caused him to discover the distasteful fact!  So he smashed the microscope to pieces!

"How foolish!" one might say.  But many people do the same thing with the Word of God.  They hate it and would like to get rid of it because it reveals their evil nature.

The Bible reveals the heart of man.  "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart" (Hebrews 4:12, NIV).  It is like a light shining in the darkness of men's hearts.

The passage goes on to say, "Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account" (v. 13, NIV).

Many people do not like that.  However, if they read further, they will find the solution to their sin problem and the glorious grace of God our Savior Jesus Christ.

Why do some people flee from and some people run to God's truths?  Our Lord answered that question: "This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.  Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.  But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God" (John 3:19-21, NIV).

As someone has written, "The Bible will keep us from sin, or sin will keep us from the Bible."

Let us live by the truth and walk in the light, and thus glorify our wonderful Lord.

Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission each year until our Lord returns,

Bill Bright
