A medical missionary friend, home for the holidays, shared with me about the struggles of their ministry in Haiti. Due to financial challenges they realized they had to lay off one of their four local employees.
In a country where only 8% of the population has jobs, it grieved them deeply to announce which one they had chosen. To their surprise the other three employees said, “No, we can’t let you do this. We’ll all take pay cuts to save our friend’s job.”
Galatians 6:2 teaches, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
The workplace can be a very independent environment, but God challenges us to be interdependent, quick to carry each other’s burdens. What sacrifices would you make for your peers?
Timothy Keller’s The Prodigal God
Taking his trademark intellectual approach to understanding Christianity, Timothy Keller uncovers the essential message of Jesus, locked inside his most familiar parable. Within that parable, Jesus reveals God’s prodigal grace toward both the irreligious and the moralistic. This book will challenge both the devout and skeptics to see Christianity in a whole new way.
