A friend, I’ll call Tim, made a mistake during his hiring process of a key executive. In this situation, Tim felt he didn’t adequately communicate his organization’s purpose and values during the hiring process.
After six months, it became evident that this new executive didn’t fit their culture. While resigning Tim was told, “I know your faith was mentioned during my interview, but I didn’t take it seriously. Had I better understood, I could’ve told you it wouldn’t work.”
Jesus taught in Mark 4, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand? For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed.”
If you expect your staff to model your values clearly emphasize them during interviews.
