A Little Bit Stronger

Self-discipline may or may not make you stronger. One of the trite sayings that I have grown to seriously dislike is “whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”.

Live like we're dying?

What would that look like? Some thoughts in this week's iPod Devotional.

Beautiful People?

An internet dating service got a lot of free pub when they annoucned they were dumping 30,000 "ugly" people.

The Face of Christ

I have probably been to New York City close to a hundred times. But I still act like a tourist when I walk the streets of Manhattan. I look at people and make eye contact with those I encounter. That makes me weird in a place where weird is the norm.

This Is The Stuff

One of the things you can be sure of when you write or teach about your faith is that you will get a pop quiz on your own material.

Tis So Sweet

When the day started I had a completely different direction for this edition of the iPod Devotional. I had discovered a new artist and I was excited to share the artist and the inspiration. The random iPod feature changed that direction entirely this morning. An old hymn that I remembered from my moralistic past cued up.

Feeling Misunderstood?

Unfortunately, actions do speak louder than words. Especially for Christians.

Letting Your Light Shine

Author E.B.White once made this observation about life. “I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.”

He Loves Us Anyway

As a recovering legalist I still struggle with concept that God does not withdraw His presence from me when I sin.

Restless

A randomly downloaded song redirects my day.

Joy to the world, He has risen

One of my favorite songs for Easter week is from Contemporary Christian music pioneer Keith Green.

Slow Fade

I often hear about a fellow follower of Jesus who has decided it is no longer worth it to continue. My reaction is always sadness and often surprise. But when I know the person well I usually see it coming.

Blessings

A recent add to the iPod rotation from a very talented artist is the subject of this week's thoughts.

God is there

Because of the subject matter of my books I get a lot of email from sad and discouraged people. I try to encourage them. I try to remind them that the inexcusable actions of some Christians should not diminish the love and grace of Christ. But it is hard to pierce the scar tissue of a wounded heart. .

Graduation Day!

This week's iPod Devotional is a very personal praise.

Out of tragedy beauty can rise

Most of us face tragedy at some point in our journey. The question for all of us is how will we respond and who will we turn to in the storm?

Perfect People

Through hiddenness and acting you can present the “perfect” and “together” Christian. Much of the time we would be living a lie.
