Romans 4:1-25 What then shall we say was gained by Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh...
Romans 4think about it.
Abraham was the gold standard of a righteous man; how was he justified (4:1-3)? How did the promise come to Abraham (4:13)? Why does the promise of righteousness depend on faith (4:13-16)? What promise from God did Abraham believe (4:17)? Describe Abraham's faith (4:18-22). What hope are we given because of Abraham's faith (4:23-25)? What first brought you to faith in God? Would you be considered an heir of Abraham because of your faith?
We're getting yet another look at Abraham and the importance of faith today, only this time from Romans. No matter how much I read or hear about faith, I still find myself wondering about it--how to get more of it, how to strengthen it, sometimes why I've faltered with it. So I'm glad our passage was Romans 4:1-25 today because it really spoke to me in a fresh way about faith. I was particularly struck by verses 20-22 where I found a number of "nuggets" to draw on and put into practice. "No distrust made him [Abraham] waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised."
So how did Romans 4 impact you today? What nuggets about faith did you uncover? Tami W.
