Two Way Street

James 4:4-10   You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God...

Our passage from James today was packed full of things we could talk about and consider. But the thing that stood out most to me was how our relationship with God is truly active, not just from God's side, but ours as well. Notice all the action verbs James uses as he describes our part in this relationship--submit, resist, draw near, cleanse, purify, humble. And all this action isn't just a one-time thing. It's ongoing, especially when it comes to submitting and drawing close to God and resisting the devil.
