Psalm 51 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions...
David is asking God to cleanse him and to create in him a clean heart and for God to renew a right spirit within him (vs. 10). And then he tells the Lord that he will honor, promote and praise Him, not with a physical sacrifice or a burnt offering, but with his actions and especially his words. Verse 16 tells us "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise."
