The Almighty $$$

today's reading.
Revelation 18:11-24   And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn for her, since no one buys their cargo anymore...

the blog.
"The Worship of Money." That might be a good subtitle for Revelation 18:14-24 because having money and material things is a focus, a priority, a goal in this time of "Babylon" during the Tribulation period. Hmmm...sound familiar? I couldn't help but think about how similar things are in the here and now to what we're reading here, especially in places like North America. Think about it. For the most part, we idolize wealth, money and having things. Now I have to tell you, that as I read and considered this passage, I was convicted. But that was a good thing because it made me stop and think about my thoughts and practices and just how easy it is for us to slip into a mindset of thinking that money somehow equals security or success. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that we shouldn't have money in the bank or a good retirement fund or a nice house. Those things just shouldn't be our primary focus and goal.

So what are some things we can do to make sure that our ideas and actions concerning money are in their proper place in our lives? And, since God is the provider of all we have, what can we do with our resources to further His work--in our families, churches, neighborhoods, around the world? Tami W.
