Chris Pratt Declares He Will Stand Boldly for Jesus ‘Even if it Costs Me Everything’
Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World actor Chris Pratt is speaking candidly about his faith and his partnership with a prayer app, declaring in a new interview he feels called to speak boldly about Jesus and shine as a light in a dark world. Pratt made the comments in an interview with The Christian Post’s Leah Klett on the heels of a new partnership with Hallow, a Catholic prayer and meditation app that has also featured the likes of actors Mark Wahlberg and Jonathan Roumie.
Citing Matthew 5:14, Pratt proclaimed: “I'm being called to be that city on the hill at this moment in my life.”
“You take a risk, I think, being in the entertainment world [in] being vocal about anything that's divisive -- and religion is divisive, and so is politics. I don’t care enough about politics to take a stand one way or another at the expense of my career. But I do care enough about Jesus to take a stand, even if it costs me. If it costs me everything, I don’t care,” Pratt told The Christian Post.
“It’s worth it to me because this is what I'm called to do. It's where my heart is. I'm a father of four. I want to raise my children up with an understanding that their dad was unashamed of his faith in Jesus and with a profound understanding of the power of prayer and the grace and the love and the joy that can come from a relationship with Jesus. That's something that's really important to me.
“Anybody really close to me knows that already, but as people are learning that about me, it's an interesting thing, because you don't hear that from a lot from people in entertainment, but it's who I am.”
He added, “I'm not going to hide behind it. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. So to get back to Matthew 5:14 -- that's what it is.”
Pratt is one of the most popular actors in Hollywood, having starred in blockbusters such as the Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy franchises while lending his voice to major animated movies, too, including The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Garfield Movie.
A father of four, Pratt acknowledged the challenges of raising a family of faith in a secular world.
“I want to teach my kids to be in it, not of it, when it comes to the world,” he said.
He was a fan of Hallow long before he was a spokesperson. A few years ago, while filming a movie in Atlanta, he stumbled upon the company’s Bible in a Year podcast while searching for resources to help him grow in his faith.
“I did the whole thing,” he said of the year-long series. “And so I have a deeper, more comprehensive understanding of the Bible. It totally strengthened my walk with Jesus. It was amazing.”
