Darren King Identifies Himself as a Victim in Michael Tait Allegations

Former Earthsuit and Mutemath drummer Darren King has come forward as a victim of former Newsboys singer Michael Tait's alleged unwanted advances, describing an incident where Tait touched him inappropriately during a dinner conversation. King, who is no longer a Christian, revealed in a recent video uploaded to X that he was the person named "Abraham" in the Roys Report (TRR) and The Guardian investigations into Tait. In June, both outlets found that Tait had been engaged in sexual misconduct and drug abuse throughout his music career, including three men who accused the former DC Talk star of grooming and sexually assaulting them between 2004 and 2014.

Tait subsequently posted a confession on June 10, confirming that he had lived a "double life" in light of the claims made against him, while also disputing "certain details" of the accusations laid against him.

In King's video, the former drummer said how his story is "by far the least severe of anyone's mentioned," CBN News reported.

Recalling his first and only encounter with Tait nearly 20 years ago, he shared how he was "so excited to get to meet one of my childhood heroes," yet the meeting they had ultimately made him "uncomfortable" including advances made in the "first four or five minutes of the conversation" with Tait.

While they were at dinner, King said the former Newsboy frontman, "in a really forced way, found a way to stroke my ear and put his hand on my leg."

Although he was thankful that he never saw Tait again, King shared that a friend claimed that Tait sexually assaulted him at Tait's house nearly a decade ago.

"Years went by, and I heard other rumors. More just rumors of his constant partying and debauchery, not of assault," King added. "Then about five months ago, my dear friend Israel (Anthem), whom I've known since 1997, and I used to work for his parents...Israel contacted me about a new story being done, and if you read, he was only 13 when he was assaulted... I never knew that story until this year, and I was heartbroken to hear it, but glad that somebody was actually doing the work of investigative journalism to start to bring all of this into the light."

Additionally, King managed to link some of Tait's other alleged victims to The Roy's Report and The Guardian.

"I hope that everyone centers the victims as you talk about this and think about it, rather than being worried about the fate of the Newsboys or of Michael Tait," King stated. "I hope that you first center the victims, honor them, and seek restoration for them. I hope that this goes to court. I hope that Tait is brought to justice in a court of law."
