Lifetime Enters Christian Market with Summer Films on Faith, Strength, and Redemption

Lifetime, an American cable network, will begin to feature faith-based content this summer, featuring four movies centered on women who use their faith to overcome adversity. These films are "centered on women facing unfathomable circumstances who use their faith to lead them through," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Starting July 19, Lifetime will feature a film per week, starring Chrissy Metz (This Is Us) in Faith in the Flames: The Nichole Jolly Story, Alexa PenaVega (Spy Kids) in Before Your Father Finds Us, Kat Graham (The Vampire Diaries), Terri Blackstock's If I Run, and Paula Patton (Precious), in Finding Faith, respectively.
Elaine Frontain Bryant, executive vice president of programming, released a statement highlighting how the network releases faith-based content in response to its audience's needs.
"We are always listening to our audience, and we know there has always been a desire for stories that reflect strength, resilience, and faith. With these four new films, we're thrilled to step into the faith-based space in an authentic, powerful, and deeply emotional way. These are stories of healing, hope, and perseverance — and we believe they will resonate with anyone who's ever faced adversity and looked for light in the darkness."
Lifetime is the "ultimate women's channel" that features "stories for women, made by women" and seeks to "empower women to find their strength through the transformative power and attraction of entertainment," Protestia reports.
In 2021, the network sparked controversy for Dr. James Kennedy Ministries' Truths That Transform, an exposé on Planned Parenthood, which has since been cancelled.
The news comes as there has been an increase in faith-based content, including Angel Studios' Sound of Freedom, which was released last year and became a smash hit. Subsequent projects include Testament: The Story of Moses on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video's successful series House of David, and The Saints starring Martin Scorsese.
