Taking His Time

Ps. 90:12 So teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart.

Can I tell you one of my absolute favorite meals is roast lamb?  You take the meat, throw in some cloves of garlic, a few sprigs of rosemary, a lemon cut in half, a bit of olive oil, you cover it….and then you slow roast it on a low heat for three to four hours. 

The whole house fills with this stunning fragrance …. and then you take it out and the meat just falls apart.  Oh!  The key to the tenderness is the slow roasting.  It takes time and patience….but it's worth the wait.

Sometimes it feels like God's taking forever to do the things in our lives that we want Him to do.  Why can't He hurry up?  I guess as I look back on my life, it's in the times when I've been feeling the heat and yet He's moved slowly that my heart's grown tender towards Him. 

And I wonder if God in His wisdom isn't more interested in the sweet fragrance of a tender heart, than He is in meeting our deadlines.
