The Devil
by Berni Dymet

Eph. 6:12 For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Anyone who's spent any time in the military will tell you that a Defence Force spends time learning to defeat the enemy.  They assess the threat, and they decide what the likely enemy is like, and they'll train to defeat that enemy.  That is after all what they do.

And whether we realise it or not, we too live on a spiritual battlefield.  People sometimes laugh at me when I say I believe that there's a devil.  But I do, because Jesus did.

There's this great children's author - CS Lewis who wrote the Narnia books - he was also quoted as a theologian.  This is what he had to say:

There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors and hail a materialist or a magician with the same delight.

Hmm.  What do you think?
