God’s Curse

Proverbs 3:33-35

Halloween conjures up that inner angst. Remember sitting around a campfire at night and listening to a skilled storyteller spin a tale that ended with his scream and your jumping out of your skin? Deep inside what makes this fun is that we know it’s make believe, but it’s not make believe when the LORD identifies those He will curse.

“The curse of the LORD is on the house of the wicked, but the righteous will be blessed with a secure resting place. If someone mocks, He will mock them, but He shows favor to the humble. The wise inherit honor, but the complacent fool He lifts up and exposes as only a lightweight.” - Proverbs 3:33-35

The father has challenged his son to humbly serve the LORD by treating his neighbor with faithfulness, generosity, and care. The wicked, who believe they get ahead by taking out their companions, face not only God’s scorn but His curses.

LORD, You express that pride, betrayal, crookedness, and the abuse of the powerless makes You sick to Your stomach. It’s an abomination! But I’m so thankful that You promise to bless those who humbly submit to You. Thank you for the secure resting place You provided for Mary and me.
