If any man ascribes anything of salvation, even the very least thing, to the free will of man, he knows nothing of grace, and he has not learned Jesus Christ rightly. – Martin Luther
There's just something about a child's security blanket. The way they hold that tattered cloth to their hearts and their head... It gives a calming peace and sense of security in an uncertain and changing world. We outgrew our security blankets a long time ago, but thankfully, as His children, God has given us something eternally better to replace it: the helmet of salvation.
"But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ." – 1 Thessalonians 5:8-9
"Put on the full armor of God... Take the helmet of salvation..." – Ephesians 6:11, 17
We are in the middle of a raging spiritual war and daily battles against the lies of Satan and the persuasion of the world. Like a child's security blanket, we can hold fast and find peace in the security of our salvation and God's unfailing love for us.
"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and the Father are one." – John 10:27-30
What battles are you facing today? What temptations? What difficulties? What mudpuddle of sin? No matter. You can rest today knowing that no one and nothing can snatch you out of God's protective hand. It is Jesus who holds onto you, not the other way around.
You can rest in this, knowing that He will follow through on what He has promised. He is capable when you are unable. You don't have to strive for righteousness, because you can't create righteousness in your own strength. Instead, God gives you His righteousness so that you can rest in your secure salvation.
Put on the secure helmet of salvation today. You can rest in the One who holds you well.
Father, I have hope, and I rejoice in You! Make me a vessel through which Your love can touch everyone I meet. Thank You for the freedom You have given me: freedom to live, love, be loved, and rest. Amen.
