I’m afraid I’m too far gone
Pastor Mark Jeske
One of the most powerful features of the Star Wars movies is that they retell the greatest of all human stories, the conflict of good and evil. Luke Skywalker’s father, Anakin, had thrown in his lot with evil and had become the sinister Darth Vader. Luke pleaded with his father to come back, but Vader believed he was too far gone. “You don’t know the power of the Dark Side. . . . It is too late for me.”
Perhaps you know someone who has tasted that kind of despair, or maybe you’ve felt it yourself. It is a serious thing to push God out of your life, and the longer you’ve done it, the heavier the blanket of inertia that weighs down your shoulders. As long as you think you must generate the goodness and positive energy to change yourself, you will remain stuck.
Let God talk to you: “‘Come now, let us settle the matter,’ says the LORD. ‘Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool’” (Isaiah 1:18). He knows your sins and loves you anyway. He knows how long it’s been and wants you back still. Let his gracious words of forgiveness wash your sins away through the precious blood of Jesus. Let the power of his Spirit jump-start your drooping willpower.
Let the kindness of his tone convince your fearful heart that it’s not too late.
