Pastor Mark Jeske
Deep down inside, people are not all that proud of their houses, automobiles, bodies, and faces. That’s why the reality TV industry finds such a ready audience for its many “makeover” shows. You know the drill—professionals in home remodeling, auto restoration, or personal beauty parachute into somebody’s life and in a short time, shazam! A whole new you!
Something like that is happening with you in your spiritual life. You were born a mess—selfish, lazy, materialistic, and wired to agree to Satan’s temptations already as an infant. But at some point in your life God did an intervention. His Holy Spirit planted faith in your heart through Baptism and the Word and awakened a new self inside you.
Now it’s time for you to claim that awakening and develop it: “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:22-24). The Bible is both your energy sourcebook and values guidebook. It prompts you to care what God thinks about your decisions and values, shows you what he values, and powers you up to act.
Here’s God’s bonus—putting on the new spiritual self not only glorifies him, but it is the path to a happy life for you.
You have the power to change your world!
The Bible tells the story of how God reformed a misshaped world through Jesus. How you see yourself fitting into that story shapes you. And as you reach out to share that story, it can’t help but shape the world around you!
