God Sings Love Songs for You - iBelieve Truth: A Devotional for Women - June 27, 2025
“The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)
I’ve enjoyed singing ever since my childhood. From elementary school through college, I sang in various choirs, and choir practices were often my favorite parts of each day. After college, I started singing in worship groups at church. There were many times when I felt God’s love strongly while we sang during worship services. But I was astonished to discover a Bible verse I hadn’t known before – Zephaniah 3:17 – that describes God singing over the people he loves. That helped me embrace God’s love for me in new ways because it showed me how personally my Creator connects with me. I’m still in awe of the reality that the God who made me rejoices over me with singing.
Have you ever stopped to think about how much God loves you? Zephaniah 3:17 reveals that God loves you so much, he actually sings over you with joy!
The verse starts out by assuring you that God is personally present with you. God is your close companion, and he’s always available to listen to your prayers and help you with whatever you need.
Then the verse describes God as “the Mighty Warrior who saves.” God fights your battles – the battles against fear, sin, and evil that try to harm you. God empowers you to fight and win during spiritual warfare and gives you the guidance and encouragement you need for any type of challenges you face.
God “will take great delight in you;” the verse continues. This part of the verse is especially wonderful! God feels great delight in your presence. He celebrates you for who you are as one of his beloved children. God loves you completely and unconditionally. Your loving Heavenly Father delights in you simply because you’re his child. God’s love for you doesn’t depend on anything you do, so you don’t need to earn it to prove your worth. God’s delight in you is a gift that he gives you freely.
Finally, the verse declares that “in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” God, like a good parent, disciplines those he loves (Hebrews 12:6). But God doesn't constantly point out your mistakes or condemn you. God looks at you through the lens of Jesus’ sacrifice for your sins, and in that love, God rejoices over you.
The way God rejoices is by singing over you. Your powerful Creator is so filled with joy over you that he breaks into song! God’s songs for you are love songs that celebrate who you are as one of his beloved children. Knowing that can inspire you to remember that your true identity is as God’s child, regardless of what other roles you play in your life.
Singing is a very personal form of expression. The fact that God sings over you shows how much God loves you personally. By singing love songs for you, God expresses how devoted he is to you and how committed he is to a loving relationship with you. In return, when you worship God by singing, you’re expressing your own love and devotion in a way that builds a stronger and more personal connection with God.
The fact that God sings love songs for you can encourage you whenever you need to be reminded of how much you’re really loved. You don’t have to work hard for God’s approval since you already have God’s delight. You don’t have to fear God’s judgment since you already have his joy. Rest in that wonderful truth!
Let’s pray:
Dear God, I’m incredibly grateful that you, my loving and powerful Creator, are with me and take great delight in me. Thank you for not rebuking me, but for rejoicing over me with singing. Please help me to believe and receive this passionate love you have for me, even when I feel unworthy. Let me hear your beautiful love songs in my life every single day. I want to live in the freedom and peace that comes from knowing how cherished I am by you. I love you, too! Amen.
