“The Lord is my shepherd. I lack nothing.”- Psalm 23:1

I checked my bank account and realized I barely had enough to buy soup for a recent Women's Ministry gathering. Feeling embarrassed and frustrated with my financial situation, I contemplated not attending. I couldn't afford it, but I wanted to attend the much-needed fellowship and to do something edifying for me. God provided something far greater than my bank account balance.

While I didn't have an overabundance of money, all my needs were met. The Women's Ministry gathering was wonderful, and I was encouraged, uplifted, and spiritually fed. I'm so glad that I didn't let my limited funds keep me from attending the soul-affirming communal event. While I've been working for several years, there have been so many times when I have had less money than I needed for the month, and I've struggled financially.

In Psalm 23:1, David confidently declares that God is our Shepherd and we lack nothing. When we focus on our financial struggles, we focus on lack and what we don’t have. Psalm 23:1 reminds us that God is our provider and will care for us and meet all our needs. Just like a loving and supportive parent, God will continue to ensure that we are cared for.  We are always striving and trying to figure out, within our own strength, how to get more. When we rest in God’s provision, we cease striving and trust in what God has already provided. During seasons of financial difficulties, it doesn't feel good, and many times, I've asked myself, " How did I get here? Will I ever see a financial breakthrough? You may be asking the same questions and feeling like you don't see light at the end of the tunnel.  When I didn't see how a bill would get paid, God always makes a way. All of my needs are met, and God always provides.

Despite going through difficult financial situations or seasons, give thanks that God will provide everything you need. God's faithfulness is steadfast and consistent, even when our bank accounts are not. It's so easy to complain and focus on what we don’t have. If I'm honest, complaining often keeps me in a continual state of discontent and leaves no room to praise God for the numerous needs God continues to provide for.

There are so many daily needs that God meets that are not financial. Food, shelter, good health, peace, quality time with family and friends, protection, and renewed encouragement. We may not have everything that we want, but all of our needs are met. ^PAs a loving Shepherd, God will lead, protect, and provide for God’s children. As God's children, God will always take care of us. Let’s continue to praise God for who God is and be reminded that God will not forget about us. Although I've had several seasons of financial strain, all my essential needs were met. I'm so grateful I didn't let my limited funds keep me from attending the dinner. I gained amazing support, encouragement, prayer, and a meaningful community that my soul desperately needed.

Financial instability and uncertainty bring anxiety and restlessness. We're trying to ensure we have enough money to cover our living expenses and adjust as necessary. We can rest assured that God's provision is stable, steadfast, and always right on time. When we’re tempted to remain discouraged by our financial challenges, we should start praising God and take some time to give thanks for the numerous ways God is providing for us. Keep a gratitude journal, and sing worship songs to remind you of the ways God continues to provide and remain faithful. Meditate on Psalm 23:1 and be encouraged that God is your good Shepherd. Philippians 4:19 states,

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”

I invite you to take a few minutes to write down all your current needs that God continues to provide for. Be encouraged and rest in God’s promises, provision, and faithfulness. God knows what we need and will continue to provide in unimaginable ways.

Let's pray ...

Dear God,
Thank you for always providing for my physical, financial, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs. When I feel anxious and overwhelmed about my finances, please remind me that You are in complete control and will take care of me. During times of uncertainty, help to give You thanks and praise for the many ways you continue to provide. Thank you for helping me to rest in Your abundant provision.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
