A Matter of Life and Death
There is a matter of life and death that we often forget about in the busyness of life and the daily challenges of relationships. This matter of great import is the question of where people will spend eternity.
Looking at the human race from divine viewpoint, we understand that at the end of time, there will be two groups: those who will live forever with God and those who will experience eternal death, separated from Him. Every living person's final destination hinges on the simplicity of receiving God's forgiveness for his or her sins.
None of us - saved or unsaved - deserve God's mercy. No amount of good deeds, religious activity, or church attendance can earn us this free gift of forgiveness and eternal relationship with our Maker. Each of us, from the most charitable to the cruelest, inherited the sinful nature of "the first Adam," the first man to know God and also the first to rebel against Him. Without God's gift of grace - a new spirit, made possible by the death and resurrection of Jesus - we could never be washed and made clean. Through a simple act of faith, we can receive God's offer of total pardon and a completely new spiritual nature.
But because of man's "bent" away from God, we cannot naturally recognize our need for forgiveness or see that spiritual death is avoidable only through Jesus. (1 Corinthians 2:14) And yet God freely offers eternal life, perfect righteousness, and adoption into His family to all who receive it through faith. Pray sincerely for salvation. Your life or another's depends on it.
