Keep on praying (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
We really should not be surprised, but sometimes when we witness God's faithfulness in answering prayer, it is astonishing.
On one occasion, five high school students began to sense their responsibility to God in helping to fulfill the Great Commission on their campus. Each was impressed to make a list of three friends whom he wanted to claim for Christ.
The first week they met daily to pray that these friends would sense their need of the Savior.
The second week they prayed to be instruments of God.
The third week they prayed for opportunities to speak to their friends about Christ. That same week the 15 students for whom they had prayed received the Savior!
Do not underestimate the power of prayer. My mother and father were married more than thirty years before he received Christ. Their love for each other was strong, but Dad's indifference to the Lord must have caused my mother to shed many tears. Nevertheless, she kept praying for him, and for my brothers and sisters and me, until finally her prayers began to see results, and our entire family received the Lord.
It was during a time of personal crisis in the life of one of my staff associates that I was awakened at approximately 2 a.m. one morning. As I slipped to my knees in prayer, the Holy Spirit impressed me to pray for him and to ask the Lord for wisdom in how to respond to the needs of my friend. God prepared me for a crucial meeting with him the next day. Without the Holy Spirit's instructions and my time of prayer, our meeting could have been catastrophic.
I talk to God hundreds of times in the course of the day -- about everything. I pray for wisdom about the numerous decisions I must make each day. I pray for the salvation of friends and strangers, the healing of the sick, and the spiritual and material needs of Campus Crusade for Christ and friends. I pray for our leaders and for those in authority over us. I even pray about the clothes I wear -- that the way I dress, as well as my words and actions, will bring glory to God.
The more frequently we share our thoughts and desires with our Lord, the closer we come to Him.
Prayer is powerful. Prayer pleases God. That is why He says, "Keep on praying." (1 Thessalonians 5:17, NLT).
Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission each year until our Lord returns,
