The Performance Mindset
By Rick Boxx
April 4, 2011

An acquaintance of mine explained that he had adopted twins from an orphanage, who constantly compete with each other, trying to attract attention. They had been conditioned in the orphanage that love came from performance, rather than from their existence.

Many people in the marketplace seem to perform for God in order to win His affection. They act like orphans, not children of God.

After their mission trip, Jesus’ 72 disciples joyfully reported that the demons had submitted to them. Jesus cautioned them in Luke 10:20, “Do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

If you’ve been striving to gain the Lords’ favor based on your performance, Stop! He loves you as an adopted child, not as an orphan.
