A Modern Day Prophet

If you were to list your job responsibilities it’s unlikely that “Prophet” would be on that list. However, if you feel part of your job is to help shape your organization’s ethical culture, the label of “Prophet” may actually be appropriate.

In 1 Corinthians 14:3 the Apostle Paul wrote, “But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation.”

Many people believe a prophet is a foreteller of things to come, but if we examine Paul’s definition we discover that edification means “to instruct or improve others morally or intellectually.” Exhortation means to “encourage others to do something,” and consolation is “to console those who stumble along the way.”

Anyone in leadership who desires to shape their culture is like a modern day prophet concerned with edification, exhortation, and consolation.
