Peer Pressure
July 6, 2011
By: Rick Boxx

As a young man I worked with a peer who was a bad influence. Although I was completely responsible for my own actions, I ultimately was fired for following his lead and charging personal expenses to the company.

A study on student peer pressure, highlighted in a Wall Street Journal article, discovered that friends do have a powerful influence on each other. When one friend begins participating in negative behavior like sex, smoking, or drugs there is a significantly higher possibility that his or her close friends will engage in similar behavior within the next year.

This study affirms Paul’s teaching in 1 Corinthians 15:33, “Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character.”

The culture of your business is fragile. When hiring, test and verify for good character.
