Rejected Kindness
By Rick Boxx
June 3, 2011

A friend named Kathy was struggling with city inspectors to get a remodeled medical facility approved. To make peace with the inspectors she baked some cookies and headed to city hall.

When Kathy informed the receptionist that she had some cookies for those in the Inspection Department, the receptionist replied curtly, “We don’t accept gratuities.” Eventually an inspector instructed the receptionist to accept the cookies.

As Kathy left, she asked the receptionist, “You all don’t get many random acts of kindness around here, do you?”

Colossians 3:12 teaches, “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”

Our acts of kindness may not always be well received, but we are called to keep trying.
