Thoughts for the Day
When life hurts, we naturally look for relief. We want something—anything—that will make the pain stop, even temporarily. Comfort itself is not wrong. God designed us to seek rest and renewal. The problem arises when we turn to substitutes that promise comfort but slowly take control.
What begins as relief can become dependency. We reach for distractions, habits, substances, or behaviors to numb discomfort, avoid pain, or escape reality. For a moment, they work. But the pain always returns—often stronger than before—and now we are entangled.
God never intended us to escape pain by numbing ourselves. Instead, He offers rest that restores rather than replaces reality. Jesus invites us to come to Him—not when we have everything together, but when we are weary, burdened, and honest about our need.
Consider This . . .
True rest does not come from avoiding pain; it comes from bringing our pain to the right place. What you turn to when life hurts most reveals what you believe will save you. Jesus offers rest that heals rather than controls.
Jesus, I’m tired of carrying burdens on my own. Forgive me for turning to quick fixes that never truly heal. Teach me to come to You when I’m weary and to trust You with my pain.
In Your name…
