Thoughts for the Day
Most meaningful financial change happens slowly. That can be discouraging.
We make a plan, begin paying down debt, start saving, or change our spending habits—and then discover that progress takes longer than we expected. An unexpected expense appears. The car needs repairs. A bill increases. Suddenly it feels as though all our effort has accomplished very little.
That is when perseverance becomes important.
Perseverance means continuing to do what is right even when the reward is not immediate. It means remembering where we are going when circumstances tempt us to give up.
The same principle applies throughout our spiritual lives. God develops us through consistent obedience. Self-control practiced today makes tomorrow's decision a little easier. A small amount saved regularly begins to grow. One debt payment after another eventually reduces what is owed. Faithfulness repeated over time becomes a lifestyle.
We should not despise small progress.
You may not be where you want to be financially, but perhaps you are no longer where you once were. Celebrate the progress God has helped you make and continue moving forward.
Financial freedom is rarely the result of one spectacular decision. More often, it comes through many small, wise decisions made consistently. Ask God for the perseverance to keep making them.
Consider This . . .
Where are you most tempted to give up financially? Perhaps you have been working on a goal for months and the finish line still seems far away. Maybe you made progress and then experienced a setback. Do not allow one difficult season to convince you that your efforts have been wasted. Look back and identify the progress you have already made—even if it seems small. Then look forward and identify the next step. You do not have to accomplish everything at once. Ask God for the perseverance to make the next right decision, and then the next one after that. Small acts of faithfulness repeated over time can produce significant change.
Prayer
Father, give me perseverance when progress seems slow. Help me not to become discouraged or return to old habits. Give me self-control and patience to keep making wise choices, trusting that faithfulness over time will produce fruit.
